                            Kayla Thrasher, 35 years young

                            Picture
My name is Kayla Thrasher and I would like to tell you about what the Sand Dollar Discovery House has done for me. Let me start by telling you a little bit of my history...I am 35 years old and have 5 children. About 5 years ago I discovered crack cocaine. At first it was something I thought I enjoyed, but then turned into a habit I no longer could control and it became the most important thing in my life. Because of this addiction I lost everything that meant something to me. My children, who are all in the foster care system and I no longer have any rights to. My children's father and significant other 0f 15 years, who is serving a 7 1/2 year  sentence because of his own addiction to crack cocaine. I myself ended up serving a year sentence in prison. I was blessed with the opportunity to come to Sand Dollar. I have been here now 9 months and have learned to love; not just myself, but how to truly love other people. This program has changed my perception on life, and I know I have purpose. I have developed a spiritual life which has become the foundation for my life. This program has shown me who I truly am and that is love. I am forever grateful to Naomi and Albert for sharing with me what they have already discovered about living life abundantly, having total faith in God and the importance of loving other people. This program has truly changed my life. Thank you.

                            Rayanne Luque, 39 years young

                            Picture
My name is Rayanne Luque. I am a 39 year old single mother of 4. I grew up in a very dysfunctional family. I had my first child at age 16, to make a very long story short, by the time I was 20 I was into a lot of drugs, made a lot of bad choices, lost everything I owned including my children. After I lost my kids I totally lost myself. All I wanted to do was stay high, so I didn't have to deal with life or how I felt inside. I was in and out of jail for years. Finally I ended up in prison. I re-established my relationship with God, did a lot of praying to God to put me where I needed to be. God answered my prayers and placed me in the Sand Dollar. What I'm learning here is that I made bad choices, that does not make me a bad person. I now know that I'm a perfect child of God. I have learned so much on self-worth, relapse prevention, prayer, and techniques, forgiveness and much more. I am a changed person because of this program. I feel so much better about myself. They're teaching me how to build a foundation so I'll have the tools I need to stay sober. I work at our thrift store, so I'm learning to have a real job and get back into the community. I could go on and on about this awesome program and never explain how great it is. So I'll end this by saying Thank You Sand Dollar for saving my life, and Thank You God for answering my prayers.

                            Kelly Carles, 40 years young

                            Picture
My name is Kelly Carles, I am 40 years old. I came from a very loving family and I have one sister and when my mother passed away I was 12 years old. So my father pretty much died with her, here was a man that drank a six pack a month to a man that gave up on life and started drinking 2 cases a day. So not only did I lose my mom but I also lost my dad too; that's when I turned to smoking weed and getting high. This behavior continued over several years of my life until I finally ended up in prison; that is where I started to gain a relationship with God. I was supposed to serve a sentence on 1.5 years. However; I ended up only serving 9 months of the sentence in prison; that I believe was the Grace of God. So when I arrived at the Sand Dollar Discovery House I had an open-heart and I was ready to go any length to stay sober. So this program has given me a second chance at life and I've been able to complete my parole since being here in this program. Albert and Naomi have taught me that the experiences in my past were made to get me to where I am today and I just Thank God everyday for bringing me here.
